The Political Undertone of Last Night's Oscars

There seemed to be this underlying theme from last nights Oscars that was all about modivational messages.

Acceptance speeches were undeinable inspiring hitting many different topics that needed to be discussed.

John Legend and Common recieved the award for "Best Original Song" for "Glory" not only did thier performance bring the crowd to tears but after thier speech there was not a dry eye in the house. They used thier speech to remind the crowd of the importance of equality in society.

The Gender Pay Gap was addressed by Patricia Arquette who won "Best Supporting Actress" for her role in "Boyhood." She reminded everyone that on average a woman makes 78 percent of what men make in similar jobs, earining herself a standing ovation from Meryl Streep and J.Lo.

Sucide was a topic brought up in many different speeched but the most prominate one came from my favorite speech of the night by Graham Moore when he won the Oscar for "Best Adapted Screenplay" for "The Imitation Game." Moore encouraged everyone to talk about suicide as he shared his own personal story about attempting to commit sucide in his teenage years. He encouraged everyone to "stay weird" and hoped to inspire many with his speech, which he definitely did.

This years Oscars were the lowest viewed in years but I would say that they were the most inpsiring. While Neil Patrick Harris did a great job of trying to keep the vibes possitive and uplifiting there was no denying that the Oscars had a very serious undertone.
